Douglas Shepherd Memorial Scholarships
Doug Shepherd was the President of the ACHE of Maryland Board of Directors in September 2011 when he passed away very suddenly. Doug had a long career in healthcare administration with National Rehabilitation Hospital, Dimensions Healthcare among others. He had been a mentor to many in the DC-Maryland area and had served with the AHA, MHA and CARF and on the Board of Governors of ACHE. He was also a past Regent of ACHE.
In memory of Doug Shepherd, we are privileged to award a scholarship annually to an undergraduate healthcare management and also to a healthcare management graduate student. Nominees both submit a personal statement on their healthcare administration goals as well as interview for the scholarship. Winners exhibit ethical behavior, demonstrated leadership qualities and have contributed to their school’s knowledge base through active participation in student activities.
Those selected for 2023 include Brittany Wiafe, an MHA graduate student at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Bianca Coates, an undergraduate student at the University of Baltimore. Congratulations Brittany and Bianca!
